Envy

Envy stars our old friends Ben Stiller (Along Came Polly) and Jack Black (School of Rock). I believe you either love or hate those two, not alot of room in the middle. We happen to love them. They are funny and fun to watch. Envy starts out fabulous, has some funny visuals and is a cleverly written story about two friends living mediocre lives that they both hate. One is the "idea man", always spewing far out ideas and oddly enough, one actually hits - a spray that makes dog poo disappear! He gets rich beyond anyone's wildest dreams and the friend who remains poor must wallow in envy.

In one scene Ben Stiller is explaining how it feels to be eaten up with that envy and it's a striking performance. In the middle of this comedy, this scene feels so genuine, so real and so honest. Either he is an incredible actor or he has lived this and he's honest enough to come to terms with what envy really is and what it does to a person.

It's been said that Christopher Walken single handedly saves movies. He pops in for these great cameos in so many - Mousehunt comes to mind, Man on Fire most recently. We would gladly pay to watch him read the newspaper outloud, so if he's in a movie, even in a small part - we're buying a ticket. He is in Envy in a larger role than we thought possible. He's great, as always, but he isn't really used up to potential. There is a tangible feeling that he could and should be given so much more to do, but he isn't.

The story is weak after the first half, but this is definitely a film to go see if you want something squirelly and light, or if you love watching these 3 actors. It's very fun to see these men, they all are wonderful to watch. We laughed and had fun, all the way through the credits.

Pueblo Tinseltown was the theater - popcorn was fresh!

Overall rating - 3 - Fun!
