Mean Girls
My daughters Rachel (19) and Sarah (15) and I went out on Thursday night for the 10:15 show of Mean Girls. It was a spur of the moment thing - and very odd since I never (ever) pay for the evening movies! Robert and I go to the first showing on Friday and the first showing on Saturday (popcorn for breakfast!) so this was weird. It was fun though.
Mean Girls is written by Tina Fey (first female head writer for Saturday Night Live on tv), a witty and clever lady who is very funny. This movie shows off her talent in many ways. She acts in it as one of the teachers, and she shows a great sense of humor, a deep understanding of school age kids, and a clever sense of making some very honest points.
Lindsay Lohan (Freaky Friday, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen) stars and does a great job as Cady, the homeschooled girl who starts going to high school as her first experience into public school. As a mom of homeschooled kids (4) we all thought this was a great plot line. Cady has more common sense and is so much more practical and grounded than the other kids. That I've seen in my own kids, so it was a strong point. She learns how to be in with the 'cool' but mean girls and starts believing her own press, something that's dangerous for any person. As we go on this life experience of growth and understanding with her, we laugh out loud but we have to realize the deep truths that are being told also.
Tim Meadows is wonderful as Mr. Duvall - it really seems that the part was written with him in mind because it's perfect for him. He's really funny.
Tina Fey is Ms. Norbury, a teacher who is very human - suffering through a divorce, holds three jobs to make ends meet, and has some of the best lines in the whole movie. She is fun to watch and you find yourself dying to know what she'll say next. (Okay, I'm a big Tina Fey fan)
We loved this movie, all three of us. But I found out that the late showing is not only expensive but the popcorn is AWFUL - it was so stale we didn't eat it all and what a big waste of money THAT was! :( bleah.
Pueblo Tinseltown was the place.
Overall rating - a big 3 - FUN!!
