Napolean Dynamite

If we could give an award for quirkiest - freshest - strangest - most original movie this one would win in all those categories. This is a funny movie but it is Out There. :)

The story is the life of a real nerdy kid who lives in small town and is desperately trying to find his own way. He has a looney bunch of family members, and a strange best friend. It's not your typical "wacky" comedy though. (Anytime a movie uses the word "wacky" to describe itself I do not go see it) The people are weird but.... plausible. You probably know someone who is just like this one or pretty close to that one. It really is funny.

I guarantee you will either love it or hate it. Not much middle ground here. Don't go if you're under pressure to present a good movie - like on a first date or something. Go if you have time to kill, if you have a weird buddy who would appreciate it, or if you just love off beat movies (like we do).

Overall rating - a 4 for original. This is way original!

Edited 1/30/08 to add: This movie sure has stood the test of time and is an all-time classic! It has a real cult following. We had to buy this on DVD - what a GREAT movie!
