Paparazzi
We were prepared for the B movies this weekend - not any real big blockbusters opening and we thought we were in the Minors, but not so. This movie surprised us and surpassed expectations.
The story follows a young, handsome action hero movie star (Cole Hauser) who is suddenly pursued by paparazzi. His son is at risk, they harm his wife - it shows the darker side of celebrity and how ruthless the photographers are to make a buck. Photoshopping in different people and backgrounds, adding headlines that are not true - it's all common fare for the tabloids who employ these scum bums. This movie gets even.
We thought since the hero follows Mel Gibson's life to a point, this must have been a fantasy of his for decades - getting even with paparazzi. :) There are several cameos that were a delight - Chris Rock pops up uncredited, as does Matthew McConaughey. Mel Gibson does a cameo that is priceless - we were laughing out loud at that one.
As for the cast - every one does a great job here. Dennis Farina is a great Columbo-style cop. Daniel Baldwin and Tom Sizemore (who in real life have both had public encounters with paparazzi themselves) play two scummy photographers. They do a wonderful job of oozing on the screen.
Pueblo Tinseltown was the theater - it's State Fair time so not so crowded today (yaay!) and we waited for fresh popcorn but had a great time chatting with Brandon, our friendly and helpful concession stand man. Good luck with your robots, Brandon! :)
Overall rating - a 3! Fun!
