Knowing

Knowing is Nicholas Cage's new movie and one we were waiting to see. It's rated PG-13 but it doesn't need to add violence and gore or naughty bits to be a first rate suspense movie. We both really enjoyed this one.

It's based around the idea of a girl who hears whispers that tell her to write down numbers, and those numbers all become major catastrophes in her lifetime. Nicholas Cage gets his hands on the numbers (they emerge 50 years later from a time capsule buried at the local elementary school) and starts to figure it all out. The geek factor in this is good, not too complicated but still present. The pacing is excellent, acting is excellent and special effects are great.

This is not deep, parts of the script are left open and it winds up in a surprising way, but it does what it sets out to do. It's entertaining and easy to get caught up in. Nicholas Cage does an extra good job with a haunted and tired look in his eyes that seems to show deep sadness and burn out about life in general.

Chandler Canterbury (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) does a wonderful job as Cage's son, and another young one who is a natural in this is Lara Robinson, a young girl who has a double role in this movie (we don't remember seeing her before).

Don't take little kids, it is spooky, scary, creepy, dark even at times.

The time went by fast, the popcorn at Pueblo Tinseltown was great and this one gets a 3!
