Paranormal Activity

Movies with a huge build up are always risky and never seem to live up to the expectation. That's the problem with Paranormal Activity. If I'd walked into this one with no preconception, I think I would have been really impressed. Walking in, instead, with huge expectation of the scariest movie EVER, left me flat.

The movie was reported to have been made for $11,000 - which is impressive! I'm all for the underdog, I was interested in seeing a movie that provides real chills and real spookiness instead of big Hollywood studio special effects. On that basis it did a good job.

The story is interesting, the characters are pretty believable and likeable (something that is essential to a good scary movie) and there are several really creepy things. They do manage to create an atmosphere and come up with some frightening moments.

In order to keep the movie going though, there unfortunately has to be quite a few Idiot Moments. Those plot turns where someone does or says something that's just idiotic and that action allows the movie to continue. Like in horror movies when someone sees the monster and has a clear shot at just driving away but INSTEAD decides to get out of the car and walk closer to the thing saying "What the heck is THAT??" when they get eaten it's justified. It was an idiot move and an Idiot Moment.

This movie is peppered with those decision moments that are idiotic but do keep the thing moving along.

It's worth seeing. It's loaded with Shaky Cam - so if it makes you motion sick (like it does us) you may want to think twice.

This got a '3' - it was fun. Pueblo Tinseltown had great fresh popcorn and our favorite ticket seller Eden.
