The Village
We waited anxiously for this movie for months. M. Night Shyamalan did a wonderful job with the advertising - the pre movie tension was great! The movie was ... different. It's not the terribly scary thriller action movie that we thought. BUT it's still a great movie.
Joaquin Phoenix (
Signs) is terrific in this one, as is Bryce Dallas Howard (
How the Grinch Stole Christmas) as the blind Ivy Walker. There is a whole cast of amazing actors - William Hurt, Sigourney Weaver, Adrien Brody - all do a wonderful job and add to the watchability.
The script is original and gripping and interesting. It is clever, it makes you think about it long after - a sure sign of a good movie.
My one and only complaint was that Robert and I figured the thing out waaaaay to early. I thought "surely not" and enjoyed watching, but I was secretly hoping I was totally wrong, and I was not. So the amazing and wonderful and mind snapping ending was... less so for me.
M. Night wrote himself into this one - as he does! ;) See if you can find him. We did.
This gets a rating of 4 - very original and a very good movie.
Great popcorn at Pueblo Tinseltown!
